Florida Tech University

Founded in 1958, Florida Tech University is a leading institution of choice for students seeking scientific and technological studies. The school is located in a subtropical area in Melbourne, Florida, not far from the Indian River and Atlantic Ocean. Less than an hour from the school is the famous Kennedy Space Center, one of the leading destinations for both domestic and foreign tourists.

About 15 acres of subtropical vegetation abound with a rich variety of palm trees as well as other flora and fauna, which constitutes the university’s famous Botanical Garden. Students may select from a wide range of programs that includes fields such as aeronautics, business, computing, engineering, psychology and the sciences.

The school has a wide outreach, with graduate studies being offered at 9 locations in 6 states. Additionally, the school’s Virtual Graduate Center offers accredited distance learning programs for students who are unable to make it to campus.

Highlights

1. Accreditation – the school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). It is the only independent technological institution in the southeast and has been listed amongst the nation’s top technological institutions in the Fiske Guide to Colleges.
2. Autism treatment – the institution plays a leading role in the treatment of autism, through the Scott Center for Autism Treatment. The center provides high quality treatment and training, and engages in applied research, to enhance the welfare and quality of life for autistic children. Amongst its strategies, the center makes use of various toys and electronics in its services to children with autism spectrum disorders.
3. Community outreach – Florida Tech University students consistently engage in various community-focused activities that clearly demonstrate a community spirit. Student-led campaigns for community service include donating food items to feed the hungry. A campus-wide campaign, November 7^th through December 2^nd 2011, collected about 4,000 pounds of foodstuff to feed the community’s hungry during the holiday season.
4. Extracurricular activities – the rich mix of extracurricular activities at Florida Tech allows you to experience a comprehensive college education. Beyond classes, you may choose to engage in clubs, community activities, intramural or varsity sports. Outdoor activities abound in the surrounding Brevard County. More than 20 sports activities are available, including badminton, baseball, basketball, crew, cricket, cross country, golf, racquetball, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.
5. Faculty achievements – the university is home to some of the most distinguished scholars in the nation, with a faculty member of Aerospace Engineering who recently earned the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) 2012 Faculty Adviser award, for his exemplary leadership role and outstanding contributions at local, regional and national level.
6. Internet connectivity – the institution has an upgraded campus network, which has contributed to high speed data circulation. This has greatly enhanced the capacity for high quality research and business activities. High speed Internet connections enhance the learning experience for students.
7. Research capacity – Florida Tech University is one of the nation’s leading research universities. The institution extends full support to both faculty and students as they seek innovative solutions to matters of national importance. Over the years, the university has devoted substantial resources to developing the research component at both undergraduate and graduate level.
